Direct
debit is a process operated by all the major banks and other financial
institutions where payments may be taken directly from an account or card
holder. This process is dependent upon the completion of an agreement which
allows the direct debit company to debit funds from the account.
Direct debit has the advantage that the funds can be withdrawn from the account
on an agreed date, for a predetermined period of time or up to a predetermined
amount and on a regular schedule. This facility provides a business with the
confidence of a secure and predictable cash flow.
Direct debit reduces your collection costs as you no longer have to contact
clients requesting payment. Overdue amounts may still occur as a result of a
defaulted payment but this is redebited.
Direct debit provides you with a reliable and predictable source of income and
will improve sales as clients will see a regular payment as a more affordable
option than a single one off payment.
Why Direct Debit? - If it is effective for the major insurance companies, gyms,
fitness centres, membership clubs and finance companies, then it will be
effective for you too - so really the question is why not!
